Professional Experience

Mr. Simpson practices regulatory, administrative, energy, land use, telecommunications, and public utility law.  He has a long history representing developers, landowners, municipalities, consumers, and nonprofits on a wide array of administrative and civil litigation as well as transactional matters.  Mr. Simpson represents clients in energy, administrative, land use and other regulatory matters before state and federal courts and agencies.  Mr. Simpson also has extensive experience volunteering as a pro bono lawyer for Oregon Legal Services’ Senior Law Project, and 1000 Friends of Oregon, a land use advocacy organization.  

Prior to joining Sanger Law, Mr. Simpson previously worked as a solo attorney on development, land use, contractual, and property matters, and as a Hearings Officer for the City of Portland conducting hearings and writing orders on land use, housing, and other city actions.  Mr. Simpson also worked as a planning intern with the City of Portland Planning Bureau and as a law clerk with Oregon Watersheds.

Mr. Simpson graduated from Willamette University College of Law in Salem, Oregon in 2000 with Honors in Research and Writing, and from Portland State University with a Masters Degree in Urban and Regional Planning in 2000 and from University of California, Los Angeles with a Bachelor’s Degree in History in 1998.
